I. What is a Fog Cannon?

A fog cannon is an environmentally friendly dust suppression device that uses high pressure to atomize water into fine particles and propels them over long distances with a fan to capture and settle dust. By spraying water mist into the air, the mist droplets collide with and envelop dust particles, which then agglomerate and eventually settle naturally due to increased weight, thereby purifying the air.

With its high dust suppression efficiency, wide coverage, and low water consumption, the fog cannon has become a primary dust control solution for open-air dust-generating sites such as mines, ports, construction sites, steel mills, and coal yards.


II. Working Principle

The working process of a fog cannon can be summarized in three core stages:

High-Pressure Atomization:
Water is pressurized by a high-pressure pump and then forced through specially designed nozzles to be sheared into fine mist droplets. The droplet size typically ranges from 10 to 150 microns. Studies show that when mist droplet size closely matches dust particle size, the probability of collision and adhesion is maximized, achieving optimal dust suppression performance.

Fan Projection:
After atomization, the mist enters the guide tube, where a high-power axial fan generates a high-velocity airflow that propels it over long distances. Depending on the model, the effective range of a fog cannon can reach 30 to 200 meters, covering areas from several thousand to over ten thousand square meters.

Adsorption and Sedimentation:
The sprayed mist droplets encounter airborne dust particles and combine with them through mechanisms such as inertial impaction, interception, and diffusion. The wetted dust particles gradually coalesce and grow larger. When their weight exceeds the buoyancy of the air, they settle naturally to the ground, completing the air purification process.

The entire system can be automatically controlled via a PLC controller. When integrated with environmental monitoring equipment (such as PM2.5/PM10 sensors), it can automatically start and stop based on real-time dust concentration levels, enabling intelligent and energy-efficient operation.


III. Core Features

High Dust Suppression Efficiency:
The system achieves over 95% removal efficiency for inhalable dust (PM10) and is also highly effective in capturing PM2.5 particles. Compared to traditional water spraying methods, the fog cannon uses only about one-tenth of the water while delivering several times higher dust suppression efficiency.

Wide Coverage:
The fog cannon can rotate 360° horizontally and adjust its vertical tilt angle, providing complete coverage without blind spots. A single system can cover over 10,000 square meters of working area, effectively controlling dust spread.

Flexible Mobility:
The equipment can be fixed-mounted around stockyards, or installed on flatbed trailers or truck chassis for mobile operation. It can be flexibly deployed to different work areas, with a single unit serving multiple dust generation points, ensuring a high return on investment.

Intelligent Operation:
Equipped with a PLC-based intelligent control system, it supports manual, automatic, and remote control modes. It can be integrated with online dust monitoring systems to automatically start when dust concentration exceeds preset limits and shut down when levels return to normal, maximizing water and energy savings while ensuring effective dust suppression.

Multi-Function Integration:
In addition to dust suppression, the fog cannon can also be used for summer cooling, air humidification, landscape irrigation, and emergency disinfection, offering versatile multi-purpose functionality.

Explosion-Proof Configuration:
For flammable and explosive environments such as coal mines and petrochemical plants, explosion-proof fog cannons are available, equipped with explosion-proof motors, explosion-proof control boxes, and anti-static nozzles to ensure safe and reliable operation in hazardous areas.
